Future Foundation, Inc. is a youth development organization that provides comprehensive after school solutions, meeting pressing metro Atlanta community needs. Established in 2001, the agency exists because of visionary and founder, Shareef Abdur-Rahim. A Sacramento Kings Forward, Cal basketball star and Trumpet Award recipient, Abdur-Rahim envisioned an agency dedicated to supporting the youth and neighborhood, in which he grew up. Incorporated in June 2001, Future Foundation received IRS 501©3 status as a non-profit in December 2001, and received State of Georgia Charitable Organization status in October 2002.
A native of Southwest Atlanta, Abdur-Rahim witnessed the important role community organizations played in nurturing healthy and successful youth. Consequently, Future Foundation programs were established to benefit underserved youth and instill in each the values of self-confidence, healthy decision making, and educational excellence, including the desire to seek higher education or develop a chosen trade.
The impact of Future Foundation runs deep with eight dynamic programs and three annual events designed to positively influence over 4,000 underserved youth, grades 5 - 12. Nestled in the heart of East Point, Georgia, students have an opportunity to work, play, and relax while building the character necessary to succeed in school and life. Providing a mix of academic support, health and fitness initiatives, cultural enrichment, and counseling services, the Reef House Learning Center, a 3500 square foot facility, was built in 2003 for after-school programming. The Reef House officially opened to the first class of students in August 2004 and now has a waiting list of prospective students.
Combining innovative programs, cutting-edge research, and a relentless approach to building capacity, Future Foundation stands as the premier youth development agency forever committed to developing today's youth for the future.
