Local Non-profit Organization is Awarded $4M Grant from the Administration for Children and Families

Atlanta, GA - Future Foundation, an organization founded by Atlanta native and NBA All-Star Shareef Abdur-Rahim has been awarded two grants totaling nearly $4.2 M from The Administration for Children and Families (ACF). The Organization will receive two grants over the next five years to implement a community based abstinence education and relationship skill building program for youth. The ACF's Community Based Abstinence Education (CBAE) program provides funding to public and private entities for the development and implementation of abstinence education programs for adolescents, ages 12 through 18, in communities across the country. The Administrations Healthy Marriage Demonstration Grant Program through the Office of Family Assistance (OFA) supports healthy marriage education and enrichment activities. Their goal is to raise public awareness and host education campaigns that promote the benefits and elements of healthy marriage along with teen programs that explore positive relationship models and that teach the core skills necessary for healthy marriages.

"We are thrilled to be apart of this initiative," says Qaadirah Abdur-Rahim, Executive Director of Future Foundation. "It is our goal that children are educated early on the importance of abstinence and healthy relationships," she said. Both programs strategically align with Future Foundation's mission of improving the lives of low-income and at-risk youth throughout Metro Atlanta by providing programs that enhance children's social and intellectual development. Future Foundation was founded in 2001 and operates out of a 3500 square foot facility specifically designed for after-school and youth development programming. "The funds from ACF will enable Future Foundation to expand our youth outreach efforts, reduce risk-taking behaviors, build on assets, and ultimately build resiliency skills in youth," says Abdur-Rahim.

The two awards total $845,909 in the first year and are renewable for up to five years. Continuation of these awards is subject to both availability of funds and progress achieved by awardees. The CBAE program is fully funded by federal funds, while The Healthy Marriage Demonstration Grant Program will fund 90 percent of Future Foundation's healthy marriage program efforts.
