Through a 2004 Atlanta Thrashers Foundation Grant, Reef House Learning Center was able to create a successful Street Hockey Clinic to increase exposure and interest in street hockey. The funds granted by the Thrashers Foundation were used to purchase hockey equipment, jerseys, and trophies for all of the participants.
In conjunction with Metro Atlanta Street Hockey Association (MASHA), Reef House kids and other community youth learned the practicalities of street hockey. With the assistance of John McLaughlin (MASHA President) and his members, participants learned sportsmanship, discipline, and the importance of physical activity and exercise. The clinic was free of cost and transportation was provided to children who lived in the immediate East Point area.
Reef House hopes to host a monthly street hockey league for youth in the Metro Atlanta area next school year. The league will begin on Saturday, September 10th and conclude on Saturday, May 13, 2006. The camp will be held on the 2nd Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m. until noon. If you have any questions and/or interested in volunteering, please contact Reef House Learning Center.
