Reef House After School Program partners with local schools to enhance the learning experiences of disadvantaged youth by offering a supportive environment that reinforces classroom lessons and supports academic challenges experienced by program participants. Structured program activities revolve around six different core areas that expose youth to engaging academic and cultural enrichment opportunities. Core areas focused on during programming include education, counseling, technology, the arts, health, and community awareness.
The program operates five days a week for the duration of the
school year. During which, Reef House staff work with school faculty
and selected program participants to improve basic skill levels
in math, literacy, and language arts. A total of twenty youth
between the ages of nine and twelve attend the center weekly.
The majority of participating students experience academic and
social challenges and are referred by teachers and counselors
at partnering schools.
Students participating attend the program until the end of their
eighth grade year. Thereafter, Reef House Staff act as case managers
during their high school years to ensure academic and emotional
stability, job readiness, and/or college entry. As a replacement
of the after school program, high school students are required
to accumulate a minimum of six hours of tutoring support weekly
and participate in scheduled enrichment activities.
Acquiring and maintaining support during vital developmental years ensure that our program participants receive the necessary support required to strengthen academic shortcomings overlooked during initial primary education years. Reef House After School Program gives participants an opportunity to develop academically, while participating in enrichment activities designed to cultivate healthy and confident youth.
